WHY DO WE HAVE A
YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL?

The Village Place encourages civic and community engagement of BIPOC youth and young people through our Youth Advisory Council (YAC). As the experts of their lives, they are most qualified to articulate their needs and desires. They are THE  FUTURE, so we must provide leadership opportunities, training, and support to prepare them and support them in launching new initiatives that address racial, health, and economic inequities.

The YAC is also a safe-space for BIPOC youth to provide insight, perspectives, experiences, and recommendations, to The Village Place, that inform our efforts and guide our programming. Our council influence policies, programs, and initiatives that directly impact them and their peers, and they ensure that the voices of young people are captured and elevated in everything we do.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

The YAC is for high school leaders and young adults who are passionate about solving community issues and want to channel their passion into action. We target BIPOC, LGBTQA+, and women youth/young people and people identifying as women.

2024-2025 CAMPAIGNS

Through our "2024-2025 Ties that Bind Us" campaign strategy, The Village Place's Youth Advisory Council & friends will launch a series of storytelling campaigns, by leveraging cross-sector resources and commitments. We will facilitate campaign launches by providing various forms of support, including: intergenerational relationship building, education on the the emergence and evolution of social issues (and how they harm Black people to a greater extent), organizer training, and resources to launch successful and innovative storytelling campaigns.
